Kanas seeks to implement a micro-grid including a combined heat and power using a linear generator, electricity storage and a variable refrigerant flow (heat pump) for heating and cooling.
This combination of leading-edge technologies represents an innovative solution to drive down energy costs while also significantly reducing carbon emissions. This solution will help to demonstrate that the legacy technologies, while well understood, are now not the best solutions in our journey to net zero.
As Calgary has approved the conversion of many office towers to residential, our project will serve as a living-lab to demonstrate how these modern technologies are effective in reducing both energy costs and emissions for new buildings as well as retrofits for our existing building inventory.
