Ecoplast Solutions Inc. is a residential builder in western Canada that manufactures a composite building material made from 100% recycled plastic and utilizes this product to design and build high-performance dwellings. Our mission is to provide a novel, innovative, and eco-friendly building material that enables the use of post-consumer recycled plastic for new construction.

Ecoplast Solutions’ affordable structural insulated panels and novel building system is made from 100% recycled plastic, can be assembled in far less time than conventional building and framing methods, and offers superior mechanical properties to conventional building materials. C02 reductions in the production of our core material is 37% less CO2 compared to virgin PET, 50% compared to XPS, 53% less than rigid polyurethane foams which are comparable building materials, all while preventing deforestation. This on top of the fact that we are also not using materials such as concrete in our walls and roof panels which has a massive carbon footprint. On site construction waste of our envelope is greatly reduced to near zero as our building system is designed and premanufactured in our facility under controlled conditions. GHG reductions are also captured in the time savings and labour of assembly. Continuous effective R30 insulation with ZERO thermal bridging offers substantial energy costs and operational savings as well as GHG reductions, and due to the nature of the structural foam, it will not loose thermal resistance over time. This long-lasting material has been third party tested for envelope blower tests that is proven to fall within Passive House ratings below .6 ACH with no additional measures taken. Our panels are extremely strong and have withstood wind tests equivalent of over 326 MPH winds (that is double cat 5 hurricane winds), and are resistant to moisture, mold, and will not rot, making it a long-term solution for residential construction.

FS06 – Siksika Housing

Siksika Housing is working with two local housing companies to build two pilot energy efficient pilot projects. Form Polarblock has constructed an insulated foundation system with an R value of 31, while EcoPlast has designed, manufactured, assembled and finished the above-grade portion of the home using a patented panelized insulated wall system which uses recycled plastics that creates a home with no thermal bridging and R value of 30. The panelized construction system reduces the construction period, saving Siksika Nation time and money for new home construction, which is much needed due to Siksika Nation’s growing housing gap.

This housing project would be the first Cleantech installation of its kind for Siksika Housing and presents an opportunity to analyse and learn from the results for future decision making. In addition, project learnings will be shared with housing representatives with the Blackfoot Confederacy.
