Nick Kendrick

EcoPilot AI, Head of Business Development

Nick currently works in business development, delivering value to commercial real estate,
facility operators and sustainability managers by harnessing artificial intelligence (AI)
solutions for HVAC systems. Nick is an energy and environmental professional with 10
years of experience that includes running an oil sands control room, working as a technical
analyst supporting Indigenous clean energy projects, and working as a community
engagement manager for a non-profit organization. This broad experience has allowed
Nick to become highly adaptable, resourceful, and driven to find unique solutions.

Nick attained an education through the University of Calgary’s Master of Science program,
with a concentration in Sustainable Energy Development to empower himself to have a
thought-provoking career and to contribute a positive impact in the world. Initially, Nick
was inspired to use this education to work within the renewable energy industry, however
he quickly realized that a focus on energy efficiency empowers end users and the
environment by providing incremental and achievable wins, paving the way for renewable
energy solutions once building energy consumption and demand are reduced.

This passion brought him to work with Ecopilot AI, a software technology that empowers
property managers to immediately reduce emissions carbon by harnessing the existing
built environment as a thermal battery. Nick has been entrusted to head the western
Canada expansion of Ecopilot, this has brought opportunities and challenges to educate
property managers how to integrate AI into their thermal operations in buildings for the
first time.

Nick believes that innovation in low carbon solutions for buildings is exciting, cutting edge,
and most importantly necessary to move GHG reduction strategies forward. After starting
an uphill battle to establish local trust, Nick spearheaded collaboration between the private
sector, non-profits and government in early 2023 resulting in the first 5 projects to date in
Western Canada. This was accomplished due to a successful application of 50% project
funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta to implement 3 installations in Edmonton and
Calgary. Nick’s goal is to use Ecopilot to drive economic development and create jobs while
simultaneously lowering operating costs and building emissions.

Nick hopes to champion the ideas of the SSRIA board and inspired members, to grow
community, while increasing education, awareness and access to smart, sustainable
infrastructure.
