FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Smart Sustainable Resilient Infrastructure Association (SSRIA) is awarded a Canada Clean50 Top Project Award.
(Alberta, Canada) – The Smart Sustainable Resilient Infrastructure Association (SSRIA) is proud to announce that its Green Building Technology Network (GBTN) has been recognized with a 2026 Clean50 Top Project Award, celebrating its leadership in advancing clean technology adoption and decarbonization within Alberta’s building sector.
The Canada’s Clean50 Top Projects Awards annually recognize initiatives completed within the past two years that demonstrate exceptional innovation, impact, and the ability to inform and inspire others.“The cumulative accomplishments of Canada’s Clean50 Top Projects in reducing and avoiding GHGs over the past 2 years adds up to a very big number. All Canadians should be grateful for the leadership, innovation and impact these organizations have shown in the projects they have completed,” Gavin Pitchford, CEO, Delta Management Group.
Launched four years ago, SSRIA’s Green Building Technology Network (GBTN) was created to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation in the building sector, one of the most complex and emissions-intensive industries in Canada, responsible for roughly 18% of national greenhouse gas emissions. The project’s mission: to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon technologies, reduce both operational and embodied carbon, and support the transition to net-zero emissions buildings by 2050.
Despite pandemic-related challenges and global supply chain disruptions, the initiative successfully demonstrated 38 innovative technologies across 48 buildings, achieving an estimated 14,000 tonnes of CO₂e lifetime emissions reductions.
Each project delivered critical insights into real-world challenges; from policy and procurement barriers to technology deployment and workforce capacity. Findings were shared widely through public webinars, case studies, and technical reports, helping industry professionals apply these solutions across new and existing projects.
“GBTN was built on collaboration and a shared belief that the path to net-zero runs directly through the buildings where we live and work,” said Pamela Goertzen, Executive Director of SSRIA. “This recognition from Clean50 affirms the value of connecting clean technology innovators with builders and policymakers to achieve lasting, scalable change.”
To further strengthen Alberta’s clean technology ecosystem, SSRIA also launched its Business Growth Program in 2021, a business accelerator supporting companies developing low-carbon solutions for buildings. Together, the GBTN and Business Growth Program are driving the commercialization of innovative technologies and empowering a new generation of clean tech entrepreneurs.
The full results of the GBTN demonstrations, including data, case studies, and video summaries, are available on SSRIA’s website.
Since 2011, Canada’s Clean50 Top Projects Awards have recognized exceptional individuals and organizations contributing to sustainable development and clean innovation across the country. The Clean50 Top Projects highlight outstanding achievements that demonstrate measurable environmental benefits and inspire systemic change.
