At the heart of Echoroot Growth Consulting is a simple but powerful mission: to amplify the impact of climate leaders and sustainability focused teams by helping them communicate more clearly and effectively. Founded by a seasoned marketing and communications strategist with over a decade of experience in the environmental and nonprofit sectors, Echoroot provides essential support to those driving the transition to a zero-carbon built environment.
The path to net-zero buildings is being paved by engineers, retrofit specialists, consultants, and nonprofits, but even the most impactful work can go unnoticed without the right messaging and outreach. Echoroot steps in as a strategic communications partner, helping these stretched-thin teams clarify their message, engage the right stakeholders, and build systems that scale their impact.
“I started Echoroot to amplify great ideas (‘echo’) and ground them in strategy and clarity (‘root’),” explains Hailey Walker, Principal Consultant at EchoRoot. “The more support these organizations can attract, the more emissions they can reduce, and the faster we can move toward a zero-carbon future.”
After five years of part-time consulting, Walker transitioned to running Echoroot full-time, bringing deep experience from leading communications for climate action programs, energy efficiency initiatives, and environmental organizations.
One standout project EchoRoot has worked on is the launch of the Sustainable Campus Collaborative, a nonprofit initiative that unites facility managers across Canada’s post-secondary institutions to drive sustainability on campus. Echoroot helped shape every aspect of this initiative, from the name and mission to its’ messaging, brand identity, website, and outreach tools. The result? A concept turned into action. The Sustainable Campus Collaborative quickly grew into a trusted national network of over 30 campuses, helping facilities leaders make smarter decisions, reduce emissions, and cut costs at scale.
Across Canada, particularly in Alberta, there’s a growing need for communications partners who understand both sustainability and the built environment. Echoroot brings a rare blend of sector fluency and strategic insight, supporting everyone from solo founders to municipal programs.
As a new member of SSRIA, Echoroot is eager to connect with others in the sustainable building space. “I’m looking forward to learning from this incredible community, and contributing wherever I can, especially around how we communicate the impact of our collective work,” Hailey Walker shares.
