At SSRIA, we’re constantly inspired by the members within our network, and Sol Invictus is a prime example of a company leading the charge toward a sustainable, zero-carbon built environment.

With nearly a decade of experience in residential energy consulting, Sol Invictus is no stranger to the challenges, and opportunities, that come with pushing buildings towards a Net-Zero performance. Whether it’s through high-performance new builds or deep energy retrofits (DERs), their team is relentlessly focused on what really matters: comfort, durability, and cutting emissions in meaningful ways.

As part of CHBA’s “Towards Cost-Effective Net Zero Residential Renovations” program, Sol Invictus, alongside Red Deer Polytechnic is tackling the energy performance of three multi-unit buildings spanning several decades of construction. It’s not just about modelling and metrics; it’s about delivering tailored, cost-effective solutions that truly work for each building and its residents.

Their recent project, “Little House on a Coal Mine” in Canmore is setting a new standard. Sitting atop a reclaimed coal mine, this Net-Zero Passive House boasts a vertical ground-source heat pump, mass timber panels, and a high-performance envelope. With PHIUS certification in progress and partnerships with Bow Crow Design and HSS Design & Build (who are both SSRIA members), it’s being called “Canmore’s Greenest Home” for good reason.

But their impact goes beyond individual buildings. Sol Invictus is actively tackling barriers in the industry, from aligning ambitious performance goals with real-world construction constraints to educating and empowering clients across Alberta and beyond. As a certified B Corporation, they don’t just talk the talk, they walk it, delivering workshops through programs like the Codes Accelerator Fund and co-leading the relaunch of the Energy Innovation Fair in 2023.

With their strong foundation in cold climate retrofit methodology, they’re not only poised to make waves in Alberta but also in similar markets internationally. Now, as proud members of SSRIA, they’re looking forward to even more collaboration, knowledge sharing, and momentum-building in the sustainable construction space.

At SSRIA, we believe progress happens through partnership and collaboration, and with Sol Invictus on board, the future is looking brighter than ever.
