Ontoly Carbon: Innovating Carbon Certification in the Building Industry
Ontoly Carbon is a groundbreaking carbon registry and certification platform designed exclusively for the building sector. By enabling carbon credit buyers to finance building decarbonization projects, Ontoly Carbon facilitates the generation and certification of carbon credits. Their software simplifies the complex process of quantifying and certifying emissions reductions from buildings, turning these reductions into tradable credits.
Currently in its development phase, Ontoly Carbon is working diligently on its software, with plans to begin initial testing in early-to-mid-2025. The platform will eventually feature GHG quantification pathways tailored to a variety of building types, including residential, large commercial, and institutional buildings. It will cover both retrofit and new construction projects. Although the initial iterations will focus on a more constrained scope to manage complexity, the company is committed to expanding its capabilities over time, aiming for a comprehensive suite of GHG quantification methodologies and innovative crediting solutions.
“We plan to launch our system in both Canada and the U.S., with a focus on aligning our carbon credit certification process with voluntary carbon market principles and regulatory compliance systems,” says Ashley Sarauer, Founder of Ontoly Carbon. “We’re actively engaging with the Government of Alberta to explore the potential of becoming an approved carbon program that could link with existing climate policies in Alberta.”
With ambitions to increase visibility in both carbon markets and climate policy, Ontoly Carbon is poised for significant future alignments.
Despite being just three months into their development journey, Ontoly Carbon has already secured grant funding from the Government of Canada to support the development of their software’s first version. The company has also been accepted into three prominent CleanTech accelerators, including Foresight Canada and Nexus New Energy out of California. Ontoly Carbon is moving swiftly and is on track to make a significant impact in the market in the coming months and years.
As a new member of SSRIA, Ontoly Carbon is eager to collaborate with like-minded organizations dedicated to advancing sustainable and resilient infrastructure. Through SSRIA, Ontoly Carbon aims to connect with a network that can test its software upon launch and help spread the word about its innovative approach to overcoming the financial barriers in building decarbonization.
Though their journey is just beginning, it’s clear that Ontoly Carbon, with its cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships, is set to play a vital role in shaping the future of sustainable building practices.
