Collaborators on an GBTN team are sub-consultants or a product/service provider with a strong business connection to the design, construction, and clean technology sector. Collaborators mutually benefit from the business development, learning opportunity and relationships made that continue on to leverage new business after the project is complete.

McMurray Métis Collaborators include: Mindful Architecture and Archineers

How did you get involved in the SSRIA GBTN with Butterwick Projects?

Mindful Architecture: Through Trevor Butler, our mechanical engineer on the project – Genevive Noel

Archineers: I discussed the SSRIA GBTN opportunity with McMurray Métis and assisted them with writing the proposal. – Trevor Butler

SSRIA connects members on projects with the intent of bringing together the strengths of industry. Check out our members listing to see who you could network with by joining SSRIA, including members like Retrofit Canada featured on this months collaborator spotlight.

What does it mean to you be a project collaborator and what value do you add?

Mindful Architecture: Our collaboration with Trevor and Martina Soderlund, our energy modeler, has identified that 11% of the energy demand to operate the building is required for the humidification of the space during the cold and dry winter months. This has led to the integration of a plant façade and of 2 living walls in the atrium which will humidify and oxygenate the space through evapo-transiprion. This biophilic design will also create a co-working oasis at the heart of the cultural centre. – Genevive Noel

Archineers: I am excited to see innovative green building technologies being implemented for such a wonderful client group. I am part of the “one team” ethos and values that McMurray Métis have established for their project. – Trevor Butler

What do you think you will gain from your participation in the project?

Mindful Architecture: The cross-pollination between diverse expertises enables the identification of energy efficient synergies, that are beyond the limits of each individual professions. – Genevive Noel

Archineers: Learning from the other team members, how their experiences all contribute to enhanced design and performance. The monitored data of the technology will also be valuable. – Trevor Butler

What do you hope the greatest project outcome will be?

Mindful Architecture: To create a Net Zero accelerator in Fort McMurray. – Genevive Noel

Archineers: That McMurray Métis have a building that goes beyond their wildest dreams of what was possible before they started the process. – Trevor Butler

How will you continue to use the experience and learning’s from this project to further reduce GHG emissions in the built environment?

Mindful Architecture: Once a project implements and validates an innovative technology, it is far easier to get uptake from other client and replicate these energy efficient strategies. – Genevive Noel

Archineers: The innovative solutions will be refined and tested for application on future projects.. – Trevor Butler
